The MGRS Live Map and Military Compass application offers critical tools for NATO militaries to precisely locate points on Earth using a standardized geocoordinate system. Developed by leveraging the Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) and Universal Polar Stereographic (UPS) grids, the MGRS system employs a unique labeling convention. This system provides geocodes for the entire globe, utilizing grid squares that range in size from 1 meter to 10 kilometers, depending on the required level of precision.

Included within the app is the comprehensive field manual FM 3-25.26 (FM 21-26), dedicated to map reading and land navigation. This manual serves as a standardized reference for all soldiers across various branches of the Army, irrespective of their Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) or rank. It covers both the theoretical and practical aspects of map reading and land navigation, ensuring soldiers have the necessary skills to navigate complex terrains effectively.

The manual is divided into two main parts:
