Magium: A Text Adventure Game
Magium is a thrilling text adventure game inspired by classic "Choose Your Own Story" books and Dungeons & Dragons (DnD). Set in a medieval fantasy world with a touch of futuristic technology, the game immerses you in a captivating narrative where every decision matters.
Gameplay Overview
In Magium, you play as Barry, an ordinary guy who joins a deadly mage tournament to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a mage. The game features a rich storyline where your choices directly impact the outcome. Making the wrong decisions could even lead to your character's demise. Beyond the traditional choice-making, Magium introduces a unique element: stats. These stats, such as ancient languages, can be upgraded using points earned throughout the game. High stats can unlock special abilities, like understanding animal and monster speech.
World and Story
The story begins at the start of the tournament, where all participants are teleported to the contest location. The world is a blend of medieval fantasy and futuristic magic, influenced by the remnants of an ancient, technologically advanced civilization. Similarities to DnD are evident, particularly in the magic system. As you progress, you'll encounter various characters, form alliances and rivalries, and uncover the secrets of the continent and its inhabitants. You'll learn about "The Creator," who established utopian societies where humans and animals coexisted harmoniously. However, these utopias are now on the brink of collapse, and your choices will determine their fate.
Book Structure and Progression
The game is structured into six or seven books, each containing over a hundred thousand words. The first book is currently available for free and spans approximately 178k words, equivalent to about 700 book pages. Completing the game on average requires around 90k words, or roughly 350 book pages. The second book, now fully released, totals 277k words across all paths, translating to about 1100 book pages. To access the second book, players must either complete 25 out of 35 achievements or purchase it. Subsequent books will follow the same unlock pattern.
