Federation TNGS - "SRI TAMILNADU GUJARATI SAMAJ"

Overview

Federation TNGS, also known as "SRI TAMILNADU GUJARATI SAMAJ," is a vibrant and dynamic organization that has served the Gujarati community in Coimbatore for over 120 years. Founded in 1942 as an NGO called Shree COIMBATORE GUJARATI SAMAJ, the organization has grown significantly, now boasting over 2200 members.

Historical Background

The roots of this organization trace back to the early 20th century when a group of Gujaratis migrated from Gujarat and settled in Coimbatore. Initially involved in the textile trade, these pioneers laid the foundation for what would become a significant social and cultural institution. Over the decades, the Samaj has expanded its reach and impact, providing essential services and support to its members.

The Gujarati Samaj Bhavan

Located on Mettupalayam Road in Coimbatore, the Gujarati Samaj Bhavan stands as a testament to the community's dedication and hard work. Built in two phases costing over Rs.150 Lakhs (in 1981-82 and 2000-2001), the building spans 70,000 square feet on a 78 cents plot. This imposing structure is not only a symbol of the Gujarati community's achievements but also serves as a hub for various activities and events.

Educational Initiatives

In addition to its social services, the Samaj has established the Shree Baldevdas Kikani Vidyamandir Trust, which operates Matriculation and CBSE Schools. These institutions provide quality education to the children of the community, fostering a generation of educated and skilled individuals.

Financial Support and Welfare Programs

The Samaj also runs the Gujarati Mutual Welfare Society, offering financial assistance to members through low-interest loans. These loans are available for a variety of needs, including medical expenses, education, family functions, and purchasing vehicles or homes. With over 1000 members contributing regularly, the society ensures that financial support is accessible to those who need it most.

Community Engagement

To further engage with its members, the Samaj has established wings dedicated to different segments of the community. The Mahila Mandal caters to the needs of women, while the Yuvak Mandal focuses on the youth. These wings organize various programs and activities aimed at empowering and supporting their respective groups.

Conclusion

The Federation TNGS - "SRI TAMILNADU GUJARATI SAMAJ" stands as a beacon of unity and progress within the Gujarati community. Through its rich history, impressive infrastructure, and comprehensive welfare programs, the Samaj continues to play a vital role in the lives of its members.
