Seega: An Ancient Board Game

Seega is a strategic board game that originated in Egypt during the 19th and 20th centuries. Played by two players, Seega involves placing and moving pieces on a 5x5 grid, with the central square marked as a special spot. The objective of the game is to capture all of your opponent's pieces.

Setup and Initial Placement

The game begins with an empty board. Each player starts with 12 pieces of their chosen color. Players alternate turns to place two pieces each on any square except the central one. Once all pieces are placed, the second player initiates the movement phase.

Movement Phase

During the movement phase, pieces can move one square horizontally or vertically, but not diagonally. Pieces are allowed to move onto the central square, which provides strategic advantages. If a player cannot move, their opponent takes an additional turn to create an opening.

Capturing Rules

Captures occur when a player's piece traps an opponent's piece between two of their own pieces. Diagonal trapping does not count as a valid capture. After capturing an enemy piece, the player can continue to move the same piece if it can make further captures. If moving a piece results in multiple simultaneous captures, all captured pieces are removed from the board.

Special Rules

A piece on the central square is immune from capture but can still be used to capture enemy pieces. It is also permissible for a piece to move between two enemy pieces without being captured, provided that one of the enemies moves away and back again to complete the capture.

Winning the Game

The game concludes when one player captures all of their opponent's pieces, declaring them the winner.

Seega is a game that requires strategic thinking, patience, and tactical maneuvering. Enjoy the challenge of outsmarting your opponent and mastering the art of Seega!
