The Islamic Student Association (HMI) was established on February 5, 1947, in Yogyakarta. Initiated by Lafran Pane and 14 students from the Islamic College (now known as the Islamic University of Indonesia), HMI has played a significant role in shaping the aspirations of Indonesian youth. HMI is grounded in Islamic principles, emphasizing the importance of contributing to a just and prosperous society under the guidance of Allah SWT.
