About Revista Living Alone São Paulo
You live alone? Welcome to LIVING ALONE.
LIVING ALONE is Brazil's first magazine dedicated to individuals living solo. Published bi-monthly by CUSTOM EDITORA since its launch in 2008, the magazine quickly became a reference in both editorial and graphic content. With bold covers, contemporary visual design, and contributions from renowned journalists and photographers, LIVING ALONE delivers insightful and surprising reports for its readers.
According to IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), over 5 million households in Brazil are occupied by a single individual. This trend is particularly prominent in cosmopolitan cities like São Paulo, where more than half of the apartments in areas such as Manhattan are inhabited by one person. The magazine caters to this unique audience, providing content tailored specifically for those who live alone but are far from feeling isolated.
To ensure targeted distribution, LIVING ALONE conducted a survey across eight neighborhoods in São Paulo—Jardins, Itaim Bibi, Vila Nova Conceição, Vila Olímpia, Ibirapuera, Moema, Morumbi, and Pinheiros. From these neighborhoods, data was collected from 374 buildings housing solo residents. This resulted in a mailing list of 15,000 names, to whom the magazine is distributed free of charge. An additional 5,000 copies are available at newsstands.
Notable figures who have graced the cover include actors José Wilker, Guilhermina Guinle, Luana Piovani, Reinaldo Gianecchini, and Carolina Ferraz; presenters Sabrina Parlatore and Marília Gabriela; singers Nando Reis, Maria Rita, and Paulo Ricardo; and models Isabeli Fontana and Michi Provensi. The magazine also features controversial personalities such as cartoonist Laerte, columnist José Simão, journalist Xico Sá, and rapper Emicida, all of whom have provided exclusive interviews and photo sessions with photographer Marcio Scavone.
LIVING ALONE combines a wide range of cultural elements, focusing on art, design, architecture, decoration, travel, gastronomy, music, fitness, behavior, and sports. It also includes provocative double interviews with personalities holding opposing views on the same topic. One notable example was the interview featuring rapper Emicida and then Commander General of the Military Police of São Paulo, Colonel Álvaro Batista Camilo.
In 2011, LIVING ALONE began releasing thematic editions. For instance, the Cinema-themed issue featured actor Milhem Cortaz on the cover, along with articles on background extras and the lives of stunt performers. The Attitude edition included a thought-provoking interview with cartoonist Laerte, which went viral on social media and mainstream media. It also highlighted a New York-based urban project designed for solo dwellers, emphasizing that living alone can be a rewarding experience.
