About Remote Release

Remote Release - Your Remote Camera Control Solution

Remote Release is a powerful application designed to give you full control over your Canon EOS DSLR cameras directly from your Android device. With Remote Release, you can remotely trigger your camera's shutter button using a USB cable, allowing you to achieve shake-free photos and videos.

Wi-Fi Support

In addition to USB connectivity, Remote Release also supports Wi-Fi connections, provided your camera supports Wi-Fi or you're using an intermediary device such as the MR3040. For detailed instructions on setting up Wi-Fi, refer to the DSLR Controller website where you can find comprehensive guides and tutorials.

Important Notes

Please ensure your device meets the necessary requirements before installing the app. If your device is not compatible, it may be due to missing software or hardware components required for the app to function correctly.

Features

Remote Release offers several key features to enhance your photography experience:

  • USB Remote Control: Trigger the camera's shutter button from your phone, just like using a traditional remote release cable.
  • Auto-Focus Control: Enable or disable auto-focus functionality depending on your needs.
  • Bulb Mode Support: Ideal for long exposure shots, hold the shutter button to keep the camera’s shutter open.
  • Continuous Shooting: Hold the shutter button to capture multiple images in quick succession.

Please note that some features depend on your camera model and whether it runs on a DryOS-based system. Refer to the DSLR Controller's device compatibility page for more details.

Requirements

To use Remote Release, your Android device must meet the following criteria:

  • Device Specifications: An Android device with an ARMv7-A or newer CPU architecture (virtually all 1GHz+ devices).
  • Supported Camera Models: Compatible Canon EOS DSLR models.
  • USB Connection:
    • Not Rooted: Android 3.1 or higher with USB host kernel and API support.
    • Rooted: Android 2.3.1 or higher with USB host kernel support.
  • Correct USB Adapter: Ensure you have the appropriate USB adapter if needed.

Device Compatibility

For a list of supported devices, visit the DSLR Controller's supported devices page. This page provides detailed information on which cameras and devices are compatible with the app.

Usage Guide

Getting Started

  1. Install the Remote Release app.
  2. Connect your camera to the phone or tablet and turn it on. Half-press the shutter button if it was already on.
  3. If a popup appears offering to open Remote Release, tap it. Otherwise, manually start the app. A Superuser popup should appear; click "allow." If the process takes too long, exit the app, half-press the shutter button again, and restart the app.
  4. If a popup indicates your device is not compatible, unfortunately, there is no workaround available.

Operating the App

Once your camera is connected and the app is running, you will see the following information displayed:

  • Camera model
  • Current shutter speed
  • Current aperture setting
  • Current ISO value
  • Current drive mode

Below these settings, you'll find three buttons:

  • Auto-Focus Button: Use this to toggle auto-focus functionality, especially useful when using lenses set to auto-focus.
  • Shutter Button: Press this to take a photo. For bulb mode or continuous shooting, hold the shutter button down until you're ready to stop capturing.
  • Open DSLR Controller in Market Button: Opens the market link for the paid version of the DSLR Controller app.

By leveraging Remote Release, you can enjoy precise control over your Canon EOS DSLR, making your photography sessions smoother and more efficient.
